We took it upon our selves to have a "Family Get together" this August 14th. Had a great time and there was 66 family members there with 5 family friends attending. Great way to go, made my heart very happy!
We met at Hilgard Park about 10 miles West of LaGrande, such a beautiful place with the Grande Round River right there, was warm and inviting for swimming and or wading; lots of shade trees made the day just perfect.
We had several branches of the family represented and to keep everyone in the know as to where they fit in we assigned colored stars to each family; Horton; Henderson; Skelton and Caldwell. Just as a side note the Arlo and Glenna Henderson children and grandchildren were related to every single person there excluding the visitors. :) How about that for mixing up the family! Arlo is a Henderson (of course) and by being married to me (Glenna) who was a Skelton whose mother was a Horton, whose mother was a Caldwell, LOL, lots of fun remember when Arlo and I were married 54 years ago, Uncle Cyril Horton said it was ok as long as he wasn't his own grandpa! Remember that song "I am my own grandpa" it was popular about that time. My 10 cousins became my neices and nephews, guess that was ok as I was the oldest by about a year. :)
Anyway, we had a good visit and some of us camped for a couple nights and that was great and brought back some good memories of other reunions and camping.

Vesper and Maude Taylor Henderson 1905 Enterprise Oregon
They lived at Promise, Wallowa, Oregon. Vesper farmed and Maude was the mother of 12 children

Arlo is the last living Henderson son of Vesper and Maude Taylor Henderson.
One sister, Grace Henderson Horton, is 90 and living in Wallowa with her daughter.

Lola's mama Monique Mendoza Raab and Dumenico. Dumenico spent almost 9 years in
Peru so this is the first reunion he has been to in a long time.
A little tidbit about Lola she really really liked the water and Uncle Dumenico helped her wade and splash!
Dumenico like the river too, and also liked catching snakes, don't think anyone really liked the snakes except him! :)
We have more members of this family but they are in Peru; Marco Sr and son Marco Jr and wife Zdenka and son in law Tyler Raab. Then a son Forrest who has been a fisherman out of Alaska for a lot of years and he has three children; Forencio, Desmond and Angel. They couldn't come.
Homer Gorbett son of Rolin and Elna (Dolly) Henderson Gorbett. Homer is 80 years young and still breaking and training horses on his ranch near Cove Oregon. Sitting with Homer is his first cousin Greg Henderson and Uncle Arlo Henderson :)
Granddaughter of Alice Henderson Smith is Jackie Hughs, daughter of Sharlene Smith Hughs who is the daughter of Alice. With Jackie is her daughter Kimberly Hughs. Looks like Kim will be going to college in LaGrade this Fall.
Daughter of Cyril and Emma Henderson Horton is Daphene who is married to Bob Nycz, with them is their son David, his wife Koi and children Rachelle, Isaac, Joel and Ethan Nycz
David is a teacher in the Stanfield school and Koi home schools their children. Great family sure glad you came.

Aren't they a handsome couple. I was told Grandma made all her own clothes and didn't need a pattern as could look at a picture and then make her own pattern, something a lot of women did at that time.
George and Ida (known as May) were parents of seven children: Sadie, Joe, Cyril, Chet, Harriet and Rose.

Larry and Margaret have 5 daughters and one son. Jim and first wife Ruby have three daughters.
Ruby passes away three years ago. Need to insert that the English kids are also decendents of the Skelton family as their father's mother was Mary Ellen Skelton, sister to William Skelton. Making Edith Horton English and Rose Horton Skelton's kids double cousins.
Forrest and Edith had another son, Frank and daughter Faye.
Larry and Margaret with four of their daughters, Beth next to Larry with Becky next to Margaret and Janet by Becky. Leaves Diane and Tim not at the reunion. Great family, Margaret is a living miracle after a very rocky time this past year.
Bob and Daphene Horton Nycz
You seen them under Emma Henderson but need to put them under the Horton's too, although Daphene was born Daphene Carper, (daughter of Ivan and Emma Henderson Carper) she was raised a Horton and as far as I am concerned she is a HORTON! Love you Daphene, remember all the good times we had a children.
Cyril Calvin and Emma E. M. Henderson Horton had four boys and this is the combined families of Willard and Richard. Warren passed away in 2009 and Steve left us in 1971.
Judy Savage Horton, wife of Willard, with her grandson Matt and granddaughter Lacy Teal then in the pink shirt is Richard's daugher Kim with her daughter Samantha and little Emma. What great family they are. Richard had a son Cyril Wayne Horton who died in 1984. Three daughters, Lorrie, Kimberly and Jessica and another son Richard Jr. Willard and Judy had three daughters, Sonja, Marie and Diana and a son Willard Jr.
Willard left us in 2009 and is greatly missed. I don't how many grandchildren and great grandchildren they have. :)

Our brother Michael Edward Little is the son of Walter J. and Rose Horton Skelton Little.
They had a daughter Linda Little Buechner who couldn't be with us.
Glenn and Rose have 11 Skelton grandchildren and haven't counted the great and great great grandchildren lately, but need to. Walt and Rose Little have 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren I think.....:)
As the oldest of Rose and Glenn's you can see my family under the Henderson's (told you they are related under the Henderson, Horton, Skelton and Caldwell lines.)
Garrie is next and he wasn't here but has two sons, Brian and Tim and four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. You can see his family by going to another part of this blog under My Nephew Brian Skelton)
Joseph and Barbara Skelton Dotterweich and Barbara's son's wife Candi Leitz (widow of Tim who died in March of this year.) Their daughter Jennifer Leitz Groves with her son Simon Groves.
Barbara and first husband Jack Leitz had three children; Dan Tim and Sheryl.
John and Judy Williams had three kids, LaWanna, Doug and Rabecca.
In the picture is LaWanna Yeager with her daughter Kristina Fallas and Judy Skelton Williams.
Doug lives in Wyoming and Becky lives in Alabama and couldn't come. Judy and John have 6 grandchildren. Kristina just got out of the Army and at the ripe old age of 23 has served two tours in Iraq.

Mike and his wife Peggy Burderer Little. Mike works at the Press Board Plant in Island City and Peggy is a Massage Therapst in LaGrande. Mike is gifted in carpentery and Peggy is gifted in making thing look great and sewing.

We all come through the first Daughter Ida May (always known as May), think she was named after her aunt Ida, sister of Mary Ann.

I knew the youngest child Jesse, he was the same age as my dad Isaac Glenn Skelton but out lived him by 44 years. I knew my grandfather William but not very well. The English kids lost their grandmother Mary Ellen Skelton in 1914 so grew up with Kate Allen Skelton English as their grandmother. Kate was the sister of my grandmother Rebecca Allen Skelton. Kate had been married to Francis Marion Skelton and a few years after he died she married the widower Frank Ray English who had been her brother in law.
